The polls in Southern California are officially open, so hopefully that means you have already voted or plan to do so later today!
We won’t know the official results until tonight at the earliest, but there are a few predictions floating around out there that claim to know who the next president will be.
Producer Angie scoured the internet and came up with the weirdest “rules” that people actually believe!
Redskins Rule: If the Washington Redskins win their last home game before the election, then the incumbent president or party will win. This rule has been on the money for 17 of the last 18 presidential races!
This could be a bad omen for President Barack Obama. The Redskins lost over the weekend, so he may be out of luck today.
ADVANTAGE: Romney
First Lady Cookie Recipe Rule: Since 1992, Family Circle magazine has held a First Lady cookie recipe contest. The winner’s husband has gone on to win the White House in 4 out of the past 5 elections.
This year, Michelle Obama took home the top honors with her white and dark chocolate chip cookies, which means Barack Obama may earn another four years in office. It was the smallest-ever margin of victory for the cookie contest. Ann Romney was only 287 votes behind with her M&M cookie recipe.
ADVANTAGE: Obama
Academy Awards/Golden Globes Rule: This one’s only been wrong 2 out of the past 50 years. It states that a Democrat will win the election if the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and the Oscar for Best Picture have not gone to the same film. The Republican wins if the same film nabs both accolades.
This year, The Descendants won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama) and The Artist won the Academy Award for Best Picture, so this points to an Obama victory.
ADVANTAGE: Obama
Scholastic Kids Vote Rule: Every 4 years, Scholastic holds a mock election for all the kids who are too young to vote.
Obama won this year’s poll with 51% of the vote compared to 45% for Mitt Romney. Furthermore, Obama took the lead in four out of five important swing states: Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Ohio.
The Scholastic Student Vote has accurately predicted the outcome of all but 2 elections since 1940.
ADVANTAGE: Obama
Pretty Hair Rule: No…we’re not referring to Miss America. Ever since people started buying televisions, a candidate’s physical appearance has become a big factor in elections.
The blog 11 Points thinks Obama could be in trouble on this one. Four years in office has not been kind to him. He’s greyed considerably since being the young whippersnapper in 2008!
On the other hand, Romney’s sporting some luscious locks, so this could be a lock for him.
ADVANTAGE: ROMNEY
Well, according to these super-scientific methods, it looks like we have a tight race! Three for Obama, two for Romney. Guess we’re going to have to wait and see what happens tonight!
